How to get video testimonials from customers

Who to ask, what to say and how to film it. From Taha at Urban Promotion. Updated November 2026.

Quick tipAsk right after a job goes well, while they're still happy, and keep it under a minute.

Who to ask

  • Customers who already said something nice
  • Regulars who know you well
  • People who look like your best customers
  • Someone who had a problem you fixed

A text you can copy

"Hi [name], thanks again for having us. Would you be happy to say a few words on video about how it went? It takes 5 minutes, and I'll send you the questions first."

6 questions to ask

  1. What was going on before you called us?
  2. Why did you pick us?
  3. What was it like working with us?
  4. What's different now?
  5. What would you tell a friend?
  6. Anything you'd add?

How to film it

  • Hold the phone upright, at eye level
  • Face a window, so their face is lit
  • Find a quiet spot, or get close for better sound
  • Let them talk in their own words. No script
  • Film the finished job too, to cut in

Where to use it

  • Your website
  • Reels and Facebook
  • Ads
  • Send it to people who are deciding

Before you post

  • Get their OK, in writing
  • Don't change what they meant
  • Health clinics: patient testimonials have strict rules. See marketing for clinics
